Michael Causey, OD, has a well-rounded background in optometry. His B.A. degree was received from the University of South Florida in Interdisciplinary Natural Science. Dr. Causey obtained his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. His externship training was at The Eye Foundation in Orlando, followed by St. Luke’s Cataract and Laser Institute in Tarpon Springs.
Before going to optometry school, Dr. Causey was a teacher at Ridgewood High School in New Port Richey, where he taught Honors Chemistry and AP Biology. After completing his training in optometry, Dr. Causey worked as a staff optometrist at Bascom Plamer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. He moved back to Tarpon Springs in 1992, and joined the St. Luke’s Cataract and Laser Institute team under its founder, Jim Gills, MD. In 2005 he opened Causey EyeCare, a private practice in New Port Richey, where he remained employed until he rejoined the St. Luke’s team in Spring Hill.
Dr. Causey is a long-time Pasco resident, moving to New Port Richey as a young child, and serving through the years as a Sunday School teacher at his church, a soccer coach for Hudson Youth Soccer, a karate instructor, and serving on various school advisory councils. He and Sherry, married in 1984, have three children and six grandchildren, all living locally. He enjoys fishing, kayaking, and bicycling… and being a busy grandpa with all of the wonderful grandkids!
