Drooping upper or lower eyelids can lead to a host of problems including a diminished field of vision, the need to raise the brows, and an overall “heavy” or “tired” feeling of the eyes.
The clinical name for eyelid surgery is blepharoplasty, an outpatient surgical procedure in which excess skin is removed from the eyelid. With age, the eyelids can stretch and the muscles supporting them can weaken. As a result, the eyelids may sag. The removal of the excess tissue allows the eye to open to a greater degree, in many cases restoring previously blocked vision. Blepharoplasty also often makes your eyes appear more alert and even younger.
Your eyelid surgery will take about 1–2 hours under intravenous sedation and a local anesthetic.
