Dr. James McDonel is extremely excited to be a part of the world class St. Luke’s team.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. McDonel received his Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University in 1990. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a Board Certified Optometric Physician.
He received residency training in medical optometry, specifically pre and post-surgical management, at the Kunesh Eye Center in Dayton, Ohio and subsequently practiced there for 14 years.
He was on faculty and served as Director of Optometric Services for the Ophthalmology Department of The University at Buffalo.
Most recently he was in private general Optometry practice in the Blacksburg/ Christiansburg area in Southwest Virginia.
He and his wife Christina are proud Villagers living in the Village of Newell. He has two “grown and flown” children. Dr. McDonel is an active Scout leader and has been on the medical staff for National and World Scout Jamborees. In his spare time, he enjoys baking and woodworking.
